Track Tec Construction, in partnership with Unibep SA, has signed a contract with PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. to carry out works on the Gdańsk Osowa-Gdynia Główna section of Railway Line No. 201. The net value of the contract is PLN 874.1 million. The project is one of the key initiatives relating to the modernization and extension of Line No. 201 in Pomerania.
Under the contract, 13.5 km of Railway Line No. 201 and 4.6 km of Railway Line No. 202 will be rebuilt. Also, a third track will be constructed, and the contracting authority is considering the possibility of building two new stations. The scope of the project includes railway, bridge, road, power supply and drainage works, as well as works on platform infrastructure, railway signalling systems and the overhead contact line.
Track Tec Construction will be responsible for key railway aspects of the project. The company’s contribution to the consortium of contractors will be its specialist expertise and experience in the delivery of complex rail infrastructure projects, including works carried out on operational railway network. Unibep and Track Tec Construction will collaborate at all stages of the project – from design and scheduling, through the coordination of works, to construction and handover.
The railway project on the Gdańsk Osowa–Gdynia Główna section is of great importance both for the efficiency of rail transport and for improving transport links within the conurbation. However, its implementation will be particularly challenging, as a significant proportion of the work will be carried out on operational infrastructure, in a densely urbanised area and in the immediate vicinity of the city centre. This means that the works must be phased with great precision, involving the coordination of numerous trades and managed in such a way as to minimise, as far as possible, the project’s impact on the day-to-day operations of the railway and the city. At Track Tec Construction, we are responsible for key railway sections. As part of the consortium, we will draw on our experience to efficiently integrate these elements and safely carry out the project, which will ultimately increase the line’s capacity and improve rail traffic in Gdynia and the entire conurbation – says Marita Szustak, President of the Management Board at Track Tec Construction.
The contract has been divided into three components. One of these will be carried out under the ‘Optimize and Build’ model, whilst the other two will be carried out under the ‘Design and Build’ model. The contract also provides for option rights which PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. may exercise during the course of the project. The deadline for completion of the project is 69 months from the date of signing the contract.
Ultimately, the project will increase the line’s capacity and improve rail traffic in Gdynia and the wider conurbation. For Track Tec Construction, the contract represents another significant project in which the company will draw on its expertise in delivering challenging, multi-disciplinary rail projects.
